The default follows Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021: after one year, 21 days of basic salary for each of the first five years and 30 days after that, pro-rated, and capped at two years of basic salary. One day is treated here as basic salary ÷ 30. Resignation does not reduce the amount under this law. Switch on the pre-2022 rules to apply the older limited-contract and resignation fractions. DIFC and DEWS are a note, not a second calculator.

What does the pre-2022 switch do?
On an unlimited contract, resignation paid one third between one and three years, two thirds between three and five, and the full amount after five. On a limited contract, resignation before five years paid nothing under those older rules, and the full amount after five. Termination or the end of the contract paid the full amount after one year.
Does this cover DIFC or a free zone?
No. DIFC has its own employment law, and DEWS replaced gratuity for many DIFC employees. Free zones may follow the federal rules or their own. This page is the mainland federal estimate only.
